Hlemoutsi fortress : Located at the top of a hill at west side of Peloponnese. Constructed between 1220-1223 from potentate Godefrido A' Velarduine was the most upper dog fortress of Achaia princedom.

 

 

Vlaherna monastery

This Byzantine monastery (12-13 century) consecrate to Virgin Mary located at Kato Panagia (at Killini) and a traditional festival takes place on celebration of the church on September 8th (birth of Madonna) at the olive grove pictorial teritorry of the monastery.

 

 

KAFKALIDA Lighthouse

     This lighthouse is located on the island of Kafkalida, in the Ionian sea, at the wester side of Peloponnese, not far from Killini port on the seaway to Zante.
     According to the tradition this island was connected with the mainland in the past. There are still Roman graves on it and some remains of an old Cristian small church.
      Nowdays you have to go by boat or from rock to rock (skerries).


Naturally SPA Baths

Just a few km from Kastro village there are the springs of naturally SPA baths of Killini. They are located in the woods next to the remains of the Roman archeologic sight

They are miraculous for human respiratory system. The alluvium from the bayou is therapeutic for a lot of diseases.

 

 

ANCIENT KILLINI (medieval Glarentza)

    A lot of ancient archeologicl remains all around along with scripts certify the antiquity of the place and the continuous life from the paleolithic ages up today.

    Ancient Killini is mentioned from Homerus (8 bc) to be participated in the Trojan War (12 bc). It was the seaport for city-country of Ilida, the organiser of Olympic Games a peaceful place. Her name is often met on the scripts of ancient writers. Historian Thukidides describes her misfortune of Peloponnese War. Also sightseer Pafsanias who vivited her the 2nd bc century give us many details in his project "Sight-seeing of Greece - Iliaka".

    The flourish of this place along with the rest of Morea (Peloponnese) during the Byzantine ages, testifies the excuisite monastery of Vlaherna. The Byzantine ages follows the Frankish domination (1204-1427) when the Achaia Princedom established, with Andravida city as the metropolis, fortress the Hlemoutsi castle (Clermont, Castel Tornese) and the port Glarentza city (Clarence - which followed ancient Killini). Place met prosperity only during the male Vilearduine potentate. Later due to the vampirism of a series of "masters" that commercialize the place from far away headquarters along with the piratical invasions will bring declinaton and fading of this culture.

    Follows Konstantinos Paleologos, the last emperor of Byzantine from 1427 to the Turkish domination with a little brake the years of 1687-1715, during the Venetian domination.

    During the uprising of 1821, Glarentza will recept the comrade-in-arms from Ionian Islands (Seven Islands) and will help the fugitives to escape. In the Hlemoutsi fortress native people will resist to Hibraim Pasa of Agypt.

 

Killini

   Killini city was built from people that left mountain KIllini (Ziria) from ancient Arkadia (nowdays Korinthia) bringing with them the worship of ancient god Dionysus. Nowdays is the main port to Kefalonia and Zante Island as it is closest to the islands than Patra port .

 

 

      One from the most important Holly places of the Ancient Greece and maybe the whole World, which is sacred to the father of the gods, Jupiter (Zeus). Olympia is the place where olmpic games were born in the ancient ages ....
